Where’s All the Research on Lifestyle and Diet? And How One Man Reversed His Diabetes
Hi everyone! Today I want to discuss something that has been bothering me: the increase in diabetes prevalence combined with inadequate solutions seems like it should have more of an effect than it does – let alone this incredible story about Peter who turned his life around so dramatically that his story truly amazes. So let’s dive right in!
Lifestyle and Diet Agorism
Let’s begin with what was clearly an elephant in the room: diabetes research conferences. At these gatherings were thousands of scientists, presentations from around the globe and loads of discussions. But the real issue? Nobody talked about its root cause–1300 scientific articles were presented – none mentioned lifestyle changes such as cutting back carbs for diabetics! Zero. Nulla. Nothing.
Professor Fredrik Nystrom and Dr. Anders Tengblad understand my perspective; both are passionate about lifestyle changes to aid diabetics, just like I am. Yet at the conference it seemed off limits; yet both PREDIMED and Look AHEAD studies had shown vital findings that should have been discussed at length: PREDIMED demonstrated how more Mediterranean diets may be better for diabetes than low-fat ones; while Look AHEAD demonstrated why “eat low-fat and exercise” advice doesn’t work! Yet everyone gave advice as though nothing had changed, as though nothing had changed at all!
Irony strikes again: the junk-food lunches served at this conference seemed like they symbolized total inaction on real issues surrounding diabetes research and medication – as long as we continue ignoring such studies, more and more people will get sick needlessly.
Peter Has Undergone An Amazing Transformation
Now let’s shift gears and talk about Peter. His journey is truly amazing: Peter battled weight for years, trying every diet out there but always feeling hungry. At 32 he was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes but the advice given just made his condition worse: following the food pyramid but loading up on orange juice and whole grain bread made matters worse, leading him down the road towards even greater weight gain while worsening his diabetes symptoms.
Peter was scared. His doctor had suggested insulin soon, which scared him more. So he turned to Google. That’s when he found Diet Doctor, began reading day and night and eventually switched over to an LCHF diet plan which helped him shed 22 pounds within one month! Moreover, two weeks after switching over, his blood sugar dropped significantly (from 185 down to between 75-90) with just real food eating alone – plus his energy level skyrocketed; from being exhausted he went from feeling active all of a sudden!
At one year’s mark, Peter had shed 93 pounds. With renewed energy, he transformed himself into an amazing husband and father; even starting cooking delectable meals alongside his wife! Sleep apnea was no more; blood tests came back positively; his sleep apnea subsided; blood pressure returned to normal; sleep apnea no longer existed and blood tests returned positive results; his sleep tests returned normal; Diet Doctor published his story along with comments such as this from him: “Thank you for informing people. My family, friends, and everyone I encounter wants change; my ultimate dream would be becoming LCHF registered nutritionist one day.”
What Can We Learn? So, what is the takeaway here? Diabetes research must address lifestyle changes to combat an epidemic such as diabetes; yet studies that focus on this aspect remain silent on real change that’s possible. Peter shows us this through his story that real change is achievable if only we talk more openly about important studies and provide advice that works. Only then will the tide of diabetes decline start turning!
